Nature Based Solutions - Implementation Models Database
A short description of the NBS project
Ecological restoration by immersing diverse artificial reefs to provide shelters and habitats to marine species. The aim of the project is to diversify and regenerate marine natural resources in order to both make local fishing durable and ecological restoration.
The objective of the intervention is the immersion of diverse artificial reefs to provide habitats to aquatic species.
NBS Implementation context
Description of the NBS
object (building, etc.)
NBS Impacts scale
Urban density/ Soil consumption
Combined with other(s) environmental friendly solution(s)?
A public institution, a local organization (city or metropolitan)
Project manager (leader and main partners): entities names, and know-how involved
Leader: BRL Ingénierie
Main partners: EMCC/ETPO
Who (else) was involved in the project ? (Inhabitants, local association, etc.)
The idea of this project had come thanks to an elected representative who wanted to integrate sustainable developpement and ecological services in the Pardo Bay. The project had been then implemented with concertation of scientists, fishermen and local representatives. Artificial reefs had been installed by an engineering society.
More detail on the process and the role of the different stakeholders (How did it happen?)

more than 5M€
Description of the financing mechanism
Adopt a stewardship role
The aim of this project is to protect and provide long term benefits related to 1 and then to all the economical activities (fishery, tourism) linked in.
Maximize material productivity and energy efficiency
Expected time for the NBS to be fully effective after its implementation
large (beyond 5 years)
Expected life time of the intervention
more than 30
