A short description of the NBS project
The project has two complementary components:
1°/ An urban farm:
vegetable production (surface of 4+2 ha) and food processing
Supply the school canteens of the city (around 1200 meals) => 85% of the fruit and vegetables consumed
2°/ A territorial project:
Help to farming development (farming land protection by modifying the local urbanim plan, subsidizing creation)
There are four main objectives:
-[Organic] food production
-Supply school canteen with organic food products
-Local food network

Description of the financing mechanism
The urban farm is partly financed by the families contribution to the canteen, and partly by the municipality.
Re-purpose the business for society/environment
The BM is based on the ownership and the management of the whole chain of supply of vegetables of the municipal school canteen, by the municipality.

Success and limiting factors
A continuity of the environmental engagement at the municipality scale. (Introduction of organic food at the canteen from 1999, etc.)
It was a quite innovative project, therefore it was difficult to get the experience and the feedback of pre-existing cases
